The
4 Basic Types of Dental Practices
1.
Fine dentistry and prevention:
Basically, the main goal is to restore the teeth to their
ideal beauty, function, comfort and longevity. Crucial to
continuation of optimum health, are good daily oral
hygiene habits, strict regime of professional examinations
and cleaning, to prevent decay and gum disease.
2.
Maintenance
dentistry: This basically is an
intermediate dentistry. By the time a person reaches an
age of their late thirties to mid forties, he/she has to
decide whether to save their teeth health (fine
dentistry) or to slide into repair and emergency mode.
Unfortunately few people understand that their mouth ages
quicker than they do themselves. Only to often they
realize having done to little, to late and they spend
their golden years as dental cripples.
3.
Repair
oriented practice:
No
longer term thought given, either to prevention of decay
or other related problems. Teeth are filled as they break
and any gum bleeding or appearance of bad breath is being
taken care of by cleaning. This unfortunately represents
70% of dental practices in America today. The strange
thing about this group is the fact that they do not enjoy
it, but have more or less given up and do not realize what
the proper dental care can do for them. It should be added
that tooth loss in the latter years is very common.
4.
Emergency
practice: Patients
see the doctor only for emergency treatment. The majority
of patients in this category loose their teeth, usually by
the age 35 to 50, depending on their heredity.
As
always, the choice is yours.
